Bruce is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales, Scotland and Australia. He jointly leads the yacht team in London.
His expertise is in sale and purchase, and construction transactions across both the yachting and small commercial vessels (SCV) sectors, as well as dispute resolution of related claims and marine insurance issues.
He also trained as a mediator and an arbitrator whilst in Australia.
Bruce has had considerable experience over the past 25 years advising marine insurers, P&I Clubs as well as owners/charterers in the UK and Australasia. During this period, he has worked on a wide range of insurance related yacht claims and disputes arising around the globe.
He regularly advises owners, charterers and builders on sale and purchase, construction, charters and other commercial contracts in the yacht and SCV sectors, as well as associated vessel registration advice.
Bruce has considerable experience over that period acting in the resolution of related complex or high value disputes in the UK and in Australia.
Acted for underwriters in obtaining a Limitation Decree in the Isle of Man pertaining to multiple claims and litigation arising from a fire aboard yachts in a Spansih marina.
Advised a major Spanish commercial operator in the successful defence of an English Admiralty Court claim arising from the sinking of a vessel in Tunisia.
Negotiated the non-litigated resolution of a contractual dispute for charter and purchase of a superyacht in France on behalf of a UK based owner.
Advised Scottish based commercial vessel operators in the securing of a €10 million loan re-financing facility for the growth of its SCV fleet.
Commenced arbitration and negotiating resolution of a construction contract in Vietnam for multi-million Euro SCV, acting for the Dutch owners.
Assisted a private UK yacht owner in registration and contractual arrangements to enter into commercial Greek bareboat charter operations.
Negotiated the non-litigated resolution of a contractual dispute for purchase of a superyacht in France on behalf of a Swiss buyer.
Advised an Anglo-Irish marine services provider in the securing of a USD$20 million loan facility for the growth of its SCV fleet and in the international purchase, flag registration and bareboat charter of various vessels in respect of new project developments in a number of Caspian Sea states.
Attended delivery and closing meetings in Norway, Switzerland, Ireland, Pakistan, Spain, France, Italy and the UK for various owners in respect of the purchase or sale of yachts and SCVs.
Acted for UK purchasers of motor yacht in an investigation into their title after the much publicised collapse of a shared yacht ownership venture 'Challenger Syndicateships.'
Acted for another Scottish based commercial operator in the negotiation of newbuild contracts for multi-million pound AHTS vessels with international builders in Europe and South East Asia.
Bruce enjoys spending time with his family, rugby and food. He also enjoys history and associated trivia, as well as the occasional round of golf. Bruce is a member of The Nautical Institute.
