Michael is a Partner in the employment team. He works almost exclusively for larger corporate clients. He concentrates on getting great results for clients in all aspects of their dealings with their people.
He is a member of the firm’s retail sector team with a focus on high street retail and retail leisure in particular. He has practical experience of the HR needs and issues of multisite operators throughout the UK. His work for clients increasingly involves their European interests and beyond. He also works for a number of government departments and housing associations.
Michael has over 20 years' experience of contentious cases of all types before the Employment Tribunal and elsewhere. In addition, given his client base, his work often involves the TUPE aspects of business sales and service provision changes together with large scale restructuring and harmonisation programmes requiring both strategic and operational advice.
Public to private sector initiatives have become an increasing part of his work. Michael has been extensively involved in the practical development of the firm’s interactive portal for the provision of management information to employment client users. He makes regular contributions to the media in all forms and is actively involved in public speaking and training for clients.
Advising a large government department on a UK wide outsourcing project relating to multiple operators.
Advising on large scale collective consultations to give effect to restructuring and contractual change in the retail and the licensed sectors.
Dealing with potential multi-party claims for protective awards in the communications sector following major out sourcing exercise concerning issues of fragmentation and assignment.
Advising a major worldwide travel company on the implications of relocation of the UK workforce.
Acting for a major UK pub operator in connection with a programme of contractual change following collective consultation across a workforce in excess of 15,000 employees.
Setting up and resourcing a full service helpline and tribunal representation service for a major retailer accommodating over 450 management users supported by an interactive reporting system.
Project managing and implementing several major training initiatives targeted at achieving the eradication of frequent issues in disciplinary processes and in the area of workplace behaviour for retail clients.
Michael enjoys music, contemporary theatre and travelling to Italy. He also enjoys football and supports Everton.
