Paul leads the energy and climate change team at the firm, helping to guide people towards sustainable business models and greener ways of doing business. He specialises in renewable energy, carbon law and related planning and environmental matters. In particular he advises public authorities and private developers on compliance with the new climate change legislation.
Paul has advised many community bodies on building wind farms for community benefit and is currently legal advisor to a project team advising one of the leading wind farm developers with sites throughout the UK.
Advising on option agreements, site acquisition, planning processes, community engagement, power purchase agreements, accreditation for renewable obligation certificates, Section 36 applications and joint ventures agreements.
Advising Scottish local government bodies on Climate Change Act 2008 and subsequent implications for community planning.
Advising government agencies on style documentation for community wind farms.
Advising RSLs on public grant funding (e.g. Climate Challenge Fund) and subsequent delivery of small scale wind farms.
Advising on the process and applications for CERT funding.
Paul enjoys running, mountain biking and rugby. He is also a citing commissioner for Magners League rugby union fixtures. He also enjoys spending time with his family.
