How do I apply for a summer vacation placement or training contract?

When can I apply?

At any time up to the closing date as stated on any advertisement you may see. We publish further details about our graduate schemes on the graduate pages of this website. For graduate trainees, we suggest applying at the end of your second year as a law student or the end of your final year if you are a non-law student. We accept applications from candidates studying their GDL or LPC as well as postgraduates.

Can I apply if I have a law degree from another country?

Yes, provided you fulfill the criteria to be able to practise law in England, such as through the completion of an appropriate conversion course.

How is the firm structured?

We are an LLP (Limited Liability Partnership) headquartered in Birmingham and Edinburgh which also house two of our largest offices with around 240 people in Birmingham and 145 people in Edinburgh. There are over 160 people in Manchester, 25 people in Glasgow, around 30 people in Leicester, 40 people in Nottingham and 55 people in London. We also have 13 people in our Leeds office and 5 people in Dubai. We are authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, the Law Society of Scotland and the Financial Conduct Authority.

What are the firm’s main practice areas?

Corporate, Commerce Technology & Media, Real Estate and Construction, Public Sector, Private Client, Shipping & Transport and Dispute Resolution and Litigation. Supporting the legal work is a range of support functions including HR, Admin, IT, Finance and Marketing.

What is the recruitment process?

For graduates applying for a summer vacation placement, we will contact successful applicants following the closing date for applications and invite you for interview. Following the interview, we will invite people who have been successful to spend a placement with us during the summer when you will be formally assessed. For graduates applying directly for a training contract, we will contact successful candidates following the closing date for applications.

When can I apply for a summer vacation placement or training contract?

Each year we recruit a number of trainees through our summer vacation placement scheme and would encourage anyone interested to apply for a placement with us with a view to being considered for a training contract. To successfully apply for a summer vacation placement, you should currently be in your second year as a law student or third/final year if you are a non-law student. Our deadline for summer vacation placement applications is 11 February. Our deadline for training contract applications is 31 July.
