How do I apply for a Summer Vacation Placement or Training Contract?

Through this website via the graduate application form.

When can I apply?

We recruit a number of our trainees through our summer vacation placement scheme, so would encourage you to apply to undertake a placement with us with a view to being considered for a training contract. To successfully apply for a summer vacation placement, you should currently be in your third year / fourth year (or first year / second year of an accelerated course if you are a graduate entrant) of an LLB. Our deadline for summer vacation placement applications is 31 January.

Should you not have applied for or undertaken a summer vacation placement with us, our deadline for training contract applications is 31 January.

Can I apply if I have a law degree from another country?

Yes, provided you fulfill the criteria to be able to practise law in Scotland, such as through the completion of an appropriate conversion course.

How is the firm structured?

We are an LLP (Limited Liability Partnership) headquartered in Birmingham, Edinburgh and Manchester, which also house our largest offices with over 140 people in Edinburgh, around 250 people in Birmingham and 185 in Manchester. We have around 30 people in our Glasgow and Leicester offices, around 40 people in Nottingham and 45 people in London. We also have 5 people in Leeds and 3 people in Dubai. We are authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, the Law Society of Scotland and the Financial Services Authority.

What are the firm’s main practice areas?

Corporate and commercial, real estate and construction, public sector, private client, shipping & transport and dispute resolution and litigation. Supporting the legal departments in a range of support functions including finance, HR, IT, marketing and admin.

What is the recruitment process?

For graduates applying for a summer vacation placement, we will contact successful applicants following the closing date for applications and invite you to an assessment evening. Following this assessment evening, we will invite successful applicants to spend a placement with us between the months of June and August where you will be formally assessed.

For graduates applying directly for a training contract, we will contact successful applicants following the closing date for applications and invite you for interview prior to making training contract offers.
