Our team acts on behalf of commodity trading clients in relation to sale contracts covering a wide range of commodities, including oil and petrochemicals, grain and feedstuffs, edible oils, sugar and metals.
We regularly handle arbitrations under the rules of the major commodity trade associations (FOSFA, GAFTA, LME, RSA), or other international arbitration rules such as those of the ICC and LCIA. We often advise on appeals to the High Court on points of law.
We provide a comprehensive service which includes advising in relation to trade finance, problems relating to letters of credit, cargo inspections, certification and collateral management agreements. We assist with problems arising through the intervention of customs or other authorities or through the application of import and export regulations and duties. We have extensive experience handling disputes over the trading and transportation of physical products, including crude oil and refined petroleum products and coal.

Seaborne perishable reefer trade grew to 91 million tonnes in 2011 and the worldwide trade of bananas/plantains grew from 13.2 million tonnes in 2001 to 15.7 million tonnes. Drewry forecasts continued growth in perishable reefer cargo for 2012 and beyond. Despite this the specialised reefer fleet is in decline with a reduction of over 200 vessels in the last ten years partly due to the challenge presented by containerships where fleets continue to increase.
